The job.

Scott Contracting & Excavating cleared a long-derelict hazardous material site at 22 Briar Avenue for the City of Cranbrook: foundations, standing structures and underground bunkers, along with years of accumulated waste.

The complication was cross-contamination. Asbestos had spread through co-mingled debris across the property, so every load had to be segregated before it moved. An on-site mobile laboratory and an environmental consultant worked alongside our licensed crew, sorting what could be recycled from what had to travel as hazardous waste.

Around 3,000 tonnes left the site in a month, 64 percent of it recycled, the rest disposed of as documented hazardous waste. The work passed its final abatement clearance, and WorkSafeBC was supportive of our process throughout. A property that had drawn squatters and illegal dumping for years went back to the city as a clean site.
