Okanagan College H Building.
Demolition and abatement of a 52,000 square foot structure on a live campus, sequenced around college operations, with 85 percent of material diverted from landfill.
The job.
Okanagan College needed its H Building gone: 52,000 square feet of aging campus structure, with the rest of the campus staying open around it. Scott Contracting & Excavating ran the abatement and demolition from March to September 2021.
A live campus dictates the sequencing. Work was staged around college operations, with dust, noise, vibration and truck movements managed so classes and campus life carried on next door to an active demolition.
Material was sorted and routed as it came down, and 85 percent of the building was diverted from landfill. The site went back to the college on schedule, clear and ready for what comes next on campus.
