Abatement · Kelowna
Parkinson Recreation Centre.
Hazardous material abatement at Kelowna's Parkinson Recreation Centre for Bird Construction, ahead of the city's largest recreation infrastructure project.
The job.
Before Bird Construction could start Kelowna’s biggest recreation infrastructure build, the existing Parkinson Recreation Centre had to be cleared of hazardous materials. The abatement ran through our sister division, Haztec Solutions, with Scott Contracting support on the same site.
A building of that era and size carries hazardous materials through its mechanical systems, finishes and service spaces. The crew worked through the facility systematically, under containment where the risk required it, with clearance testing before each area was released.
The abatement wrapped in October 2025, handing Bird Construction a clean building to take down. On projects this visible, the abatement is the part nobody sees and everybody depends on.
