The job.

The SS Sicamous is a heritage sternwheeler on Penticton’s lakeshore, and her boiler and steam pipes were insulated the way ships of her era were: with asbestos. The City of Penticton brought in our abatement crew to remove it without harming the ship.

This was high-risk abatement in confined marine spaces. Boiler and pipe insulation was removed under full containment, with the vessel’s heritage fabric protected throughout. Nothing about a hundred-year-old steel hull is standard, and the containment and access had to be built to suit her.

The work was cleared by independent inspection, and the Sicamous stays on her beach, safer for the crews who maintain her and the public who walk her decks.
