The job.

The SASCU Indoor Memorial Sports Complex, a 25,000 square foot arena by the lake in Salmon Arm, came down in six weeks for the City of Salmon Arm: abatement first, then the structure, then transport, disposal and surface restoration.

The building had asbestos in its cinder blocks, which our abatement crew removed using specialized vacuum equipment. The arena’s arched ceiling ran on timber trusses spanning over a hundred feet, deconstructed methodically from the ground with articulating attachments rather than dropped. The indoor turf was cut, rolled and sent on to be reused rather than buried.

Roughly 2,100 tonnes of debris left the site, about three quarters of it recycled. The job finished on schedule with the abatement clearance passed and the pad left clean and graded.
